Solapur Education
Solapur is a city situated on the south eastern part of the state of Maharashtra, and the border of Karnataka. Besides being called the textile capital because of the many textile industries found here, Solapur education was a dream come true to the many people working at providing education to the working people of Solapur.

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Solapur was launched as per the national policy on education by the Government of India on 21st November, 1994. This institution was opened with the intention of providing rural children a chance to study. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located in Mohol, Solapur where its school campus is about two acres large.

The Solapur University is situated in Solapur, and was inaugurated on 3rd August, 2004. The first vice-chancellor of the university was Dr. Iresh Swami. The strength of this university is about 60,000 students with its 61 affiliated colleges and recognized institutes. The colleges under Solapur university offer U.G and P.G. teaching in Arts, Science, Law, Management, Social Science, Engineering, Commerce, Technology, etc.

The principal of the College of Pharmacy-One of Solapur University which offers Pharma education is R.Y. Patil. Many students of this institution qualify for GATE every year. The Walchand Institute of Technology (WIT) was founded on 1983, and is the only engineering college found in Solapur.

This college is managed by Shri Aillak Pannalal Digambar Jain Pathashala Trust, named after Seth Walchand Hirachand, one of the pioneers of India’s industrial development. This institute has an affiliation with Shivaji university of Kolhapur and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.

The Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Government Medical College was a dream come true for Dr. Vishnu Ganesh Vaishampayan. It was after 20 years of dedication and hard work that he managed to open this medical college for the predominant labor population of Solapur in 1963.

This was first a private institution, and was taken over by the Government of Maharashtra in 1974. It now provides state of the art facilities for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. It was first affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur for all its courses. However now only postgraduate courses are affiliated here while undergraduate courses are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

The D.A.V. College Trust and Management Society is the oldest and biggest non-governmental education institution of India, being established on 31st, January, 1886. The Dayanand College of Arts and Science of Solapur was established on 1940 to celebrate the victory of the Satyagraha act by Arya Samaj over the atrocities that were committed by the then ruler of Hyderabad. Since then, this trust has worked at expanding Solapur education for people of Solapur, and surrounding areas.
